All Registered Guide/Outfitters are allowed to operate in no more than 3 areas per season for Big Game Hunting. Kitchel’s Alaska Guide Service operates in units 9, 13, and 21. The spring bear hunting starts in May in these units. Brown Bears are hunted in unit 9,in early May, on even numbered years (2004), and Grizzly Bears can be hunted in units 13 and 21 in mid-to-late May each year. Brown Bear can grow to 10’+, and Grizzly Bears grow to 9’+. These animals are intelligent, beautiful, and extremely powerful. There is no Big Game Hunting during mid-Summer, so from June 15th to July 15th, we hunt for King Salmon, on the world famous Nushagak River. During this time, you can also catch Chum Salmon, Grayling, Dolly Virden, and even Pike. Also, during the end of July the Rainbow fishing really gets hot. August brings Dall sheep and mountain Grizzly season, which requires hiking in the mountains and enjoying spectacular scenery. This is one of the most demanding and rewarding hunts you will ever enjoy. These Rams average between 36” to 38” of horn length, and their coat is a brilliant snow white. September brings cool temperatures, vibrant colors of fall, and “Rut-Crazed” Bull Moose. These monsters are 7’ tall at the shoulder, 1,500 lbs., and average 60” of antler spread. Other animals in season during September include, Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Caribou, Wolf, and Wolverine. October is fall Brown Bear season on the Alaska Peninsula during odd years (2003). The bears have been eating fish all summer and fall, and are beginning to prepare for hibernation.
